Thousands pair of eyes were locked in Sidoarjo last night as Indonesia won AFF U-19 tournament in a dramatic penalty shootout. The young Garuda managed to wage a sweet revenge against Vietnam, which previously defeated Indonesia 1-0, in the group stage.
"We have been waiting this for years," said Hengki Kurniawan, one of spectators, bursting tears as he found it difficult to believe that Indonesia can actually win. Khoirul Malung, another spectator, confirmed that "the game was so tight, but the team managed to pull off their best."
The spectators went nervous as it was not until 90 minutes of open play, 30 minutes of additional time, and nine penalty shoots, that Indonesia managed to seal off their winning. Ilham Udin Armaiyn, a young player from Ternate, secured Garuda's first winning trophy in years, after his penalty booked the score line 7-6 for Indonesia.
